President and CEO
The Board of Governors is presently searching for a new President and CEO of Red River College to replace Dr. Jeff Zabudsky who left the College to assume another position. Catherine Rushton has been appointed Interim President and CEO while the search is underway.
Catherine Rushton, MBA FCA
Cathy Rushton came to Red River College in June 1995 after relocating from Toronto. Cathy obtained her Chartered Accountant designation in 1982, has a BA from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the University of Manitoba. After leaving public accounting practice she spent over eight years employed in the not-for-profit sector, including a major Toronto hospital, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, and the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Prior to her appointment as RRC’s Interim President, she was the College’s Vice President, Finance and Administration with responsibility for financial services and budgeting, human resources, information technology, corporate legal and insurances services, and facilities and campus services.
Cathy is an active community volunteer and is currently serving as Vice Chair of the Open Access Resource Centre, Treasurer of the Winnipeg Presbytery United Church of Canada, Treasurer of the Canadian Animal Blood Bank, and Treasurer of CreComm Radio. She has been involved in several activities through the Association of Canadian Community Colleges, including faculty member of the Leadership Development Institute and the Advisory Committee on Statistics. Past activities have included membership on the Professional Conduct Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, membership on the Board of the Prior Learning Assessment Centre, and volunteering as a Big Sister. In 2008 the Institute of Chartered Accountants elected Cathy a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants (FCA) in recognition of her service to the profession.
Role of the President
As Chief Executive Officer, the President reports directly to the Board of Governors and provides the institutional leadership for implementing the Board’s vision, mission and strategic direction for Red River College. The President is an ex officio non-voting member of the Board and its standing committees.
The President is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the College and oversees all academic and administrative functions within the Board’s prescribed policies and standards.
