Program Outlines

Program outlines include entrance requirements, course descriptions, prerequisites and graduation requirements. It is your responsibility to ensure program and course prerequisites are met as outlined in the program outline. You may be required to withdrawal from the course if prerequisites are not met. Prerequisite requirements may be waived in special circumstances.

Program outlines are available at the Continuing Education office, Student Service Centres or online.

Textbooks and Supplies

Textbooks and related supplies are available in the RRC Bookstore or online.You’ll find lists of required textbooks at the Bookstore or online.

Most distance delivery course packages include the required textbook (the cost is included in the course fee). In some instances, one textbook is used for two or more courses. And in some cases, the textbook is sold separately. You will be advised of any additional cost when you register. The book can be sent with your course package, if requested.

Financial Aid

Financial aid may be available to students if they are working towards a certificate or diploma. Part-time courses that are not part of a certificate or diploma will not be eligible for a Canada Student Loan. If the student is applying for a student loan, he/she is required to bring loan papers to be signed at the time of registration.

Your First Class

You will receive a course outline detailing contents, assignments, and evaluation procedures from your instructor during the first class. At this time, you will be advised of any course requirements that may occur outside of regular class time.

Distance Delivery: Starting Your Course

For courses with monthly start dates, your course package is sent via XPress Post within 2 - 4 working days of the course start date. For term courses, it is sent 5 - 7 working days prior to the term course start date. Your course package includes learning materials, a set of directions, your instructor’s name, plus other necessary details.

Student Photo ID Cards

If you are registered for a classroom delivery course, you will require a student photo ID card. The ID card is required to access services and facilities at the College.

  • all computer labs
  • all printers in computer labs and libraries
  • Princess Street Campus for all evening and Saturday classes
  • Notre Dame Campus after hours
  • ID proof to write College exams
  • library book and equipment loans
  • College gyms and fitness centre facilities
  • Equipment loans

You can obtain your RRC ID card at a Student Services Centre for a cost of $10.
The card is valid for five years and is active as long as you’re registered for a course.

Course Locations

All students taking courses held at sites other than the Notre Dame Campus or the Exchange District Campus will be responsible for purchasing required textbooks at the College’s Bookstore (Lower Level at Notre Dame Campus) or Princess Street.

  • all orders may be couriered to students  (courier charges will be added to your book order)
  • have your credit card handy when ordering

Practicums and Work Placements

For programs involving practicums or work placements: placements can’t be guaranteed as spaces are limited and available and on a fluctuating basis. There may be a waiting period for practicum registrations and placements.

Requesting Certificates, Diplomas and Transcripts

Contact the Continuing Education office to request your certificate or diploma upon program completion. Please allow 3-4 weeks (provided that all requirements have been completed) for it to be verified, processed and mailed.

Grades are available on-line through your Web Advisor account and Grade Reports can also be printed from this site. Your final program transcript will be mailed along with your certificate/diploma at the time of graduation. Official transcripts are available upon request for a cost of $10.50.

Convocation

Once you have successfully completed a certificate program, you must apply to graduate. You will be invited to participate in one of the College’s semi-annual Convocation ceremonies. Information regarding the ceremony dates and procedures will be forwarded to you with your certificate. Click here for a copy of the Application Form to Graduate.

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition Program

Students demonstrating acquired knowledge from prior education, work and life experiences may be able to convert this learning into college credits. For further information, please contact 204.632.3094 or click here.

Transfer of Credit

Many courses are transferable to a full-time program at Red River College or vice versa. Transfer credit will be given if program requirements are met, subject to approval.

Credit for courses taken at other educational institutions may be granted towards Red River College courses and programs. A formal application with proper documentation is required to transfer credits.

Challenge for Credit

Credits may be awarded for prior education and experiential learning when students successfully pass appropriate examinations/tests of the department. For further information, please contact the Continuing Education office.

Tuition Tax Receipt

Tuition expenses of more than $100 in a year are tax deductible. As well, if you attended 12 hours of credit classes per month, you are eligible to claim a $120 per month education credit.

T2202A tax receipts will be available through your Me at RRC account (click: https://me.rrc.mb.ca/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fdefault.aspx)  at the end of February of each calendar year in which you’re enrolled. These receipts will not be mailed to you by the College.

Name Changes

If you have legally changed your name since you last registered at Red River College, and would like your student record changed, please provide the original legal proof of your name change and we’ll adjust your record. If you send your original by mail, we’ll be glad to return it to you. 
 

You may submit the request as follows:

  • In-person:  visit one of the two SSC’s D101-2055 Notre Dame Avenue or P104-160 Princess Street 

Originals must be presented in order for change to be completed. Original documents will be returned when records have been adjusted. 

Please also advise of your address changes, so we can ensure your marks, receipts, and schedules reach you at your new address.

Alumni Program
