Student Computer Systems and Accounts

This document provides brief explanations of the various computer systems and accounts you will utilize during your time with the College.

YOUR USER ID AND PASSWORD

Your User ID and default password were provided to you in either a
WebAdvisor explanation letter or an online course registration confirmation e-mail.

If you no longer have your letter or e-mail and would like to confirm your user ID and password:

 

  • Visit www.rrc.ca/webadvisor
  • Under Links, select I’m new to WebAdvisor
  • Enter your last name and either your Social Insurance Number (SIN) or your Colleague/student number. Please be sure to enter any zeros that appear at the beginning of your student number.
  • Record your User ID
  • Choose the e-mail address you would like your temporary password sent to

FORGOTTEN YOUR PASSWORD

 

  • Under the Links heading select What’s My Password?
  • Choose one of the following options:
    • I might remember: Show my password hint
    • I don’t remember: Reset my password
    • I’m new to WebAdvisor: Set up my password
    • My password is not working: Contact Us


CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD

 

  • You may change your password when accessing one of your computer accounts.
  • Your new password must contain both letters and numbers, be between 6 and 9 characters in length, and is case sensitive (e.g. NewPass99).


PASSWORD EXPIRATION


Your password will expire every 180 days. You will be sent a password reset request e-mail 15 days prior to the expiration date.


WEBADVISOR

WebAdvisor is usually the first account you will use. It provides you with 24-hour online access to:

 

  • your account information including your User ID and password
  • your personal contact information
  • your financial account summary
  • your class schedule
  • your grades
  • current admission status for full-time program students
  • the status of entrance requirement documentation submitted for full-time programs
  • online account payments
  • T2202A tax receipts
  • student loan document information such as the status of your loan document availability


PORTAL

The Portal provides registered students with single site access to important information and College communications and resources including many of your College computer accounts.


By logging in to your personalized Portal homepage at https://go.rrc.ca you will have access to:

 

  • College announcements and news
  • WebAdvisor
  • MailSite (College e-mail)
  • Your calendar
  • CaseLog (system for reporting computer problems)
  • Workgroup collaborations


LOGGING IN TO PORTAL


When you’re on campus and logged into a Windows computer station you will likely not be asked to login to the Portal. Internet Explorer simply passes your login information to the Portal. When logging in from off campus or using a browser other than Internet Explorer, use the following address:  https://go.rrc.ca. To safeguard your privacy and use the Portal safely and securely, you must use https:// at the front of the website address. To login enter academic\ and your User ID (eg. academic\youruserID) then enter your password.


PORTAL SECURITY


When stepping away from your computer you should lock it by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL and selecting ‘Lock Computer’ or logout and close your browser.


When logged in to the Portal do not leave your workstation or laptop unattended as this can result in another person having full access to your accounts and information.

LOGGING OUT OF THE PORTAL


To logout of the Portal close your browser (Internet session).


MAILSITE (COLLEGE E-MAIL)

MailSite is the College’s student e-mail system. It is the official method of electronic communication (e-mail) between the College and students including full-time program and part-time C+DE students at all RRC campuses (Winnipeg and Regional Campuses). Communication may include registration information, class start date information, etc.


MailSite e-mail is now mandatory for all students as the College is reducing the number of hardcopy (paper) items mailed to students. It is your responsibility to check your MailSite account on a regular basis for College correspondence.


OBTAINING A MAILSITE ACCOUNT


As a full-time program student an e-mail account will be created for you when we register you into your courses and send you your registration letter and statement.


As a part-time program (C+DE) student you will be provided with an e-mail account 24 to 48 hours after course registration.


LOGGING-IN


Student e-mail is accessible via the Portal or by visiting https://webmail.academic.rrc.ca/expresspro.


MAILSITE USERNAME


Your MailSite username is your regular User ID followed by @academic.rrc.ca (eg.jsmith@academic.rrc.ca).


YOUR MAILSITE E-MAIL ADDRESS


Your e-mail address is the same as your MailSite Username (eg. jsmith@academic.rrc.ca).


BASIC E-MAIL INSTRUCTIONS

  • Open an e-mail
  • Send an e-mail
  • Add someone’s contact info
  • Redirect messages to a personal e-mail account (eg. hotmail)
  • Create subfolders
  • Drag and drop messages
  • Forward e-mails to your mobile phone or device
  • Add RRCALERT to preferred sender
  • Configure calendaring
  • Configure MS Outlook for secure IMAP e-mail
  • Configure MS Entourage for secure IMAP mail
  • Configure MS Entourage for secure POP mail
  • Configure Mac Mail for secure POP mail
  • Configure Outlook Express for secure POP mail
  • Configure Outlook for secure POP3 mail access
  • Disable domain contacts


MAILSITE ASSISTANCE


For MailSite assistance please submit a Caselog through the Portal. Please be sure to include the following information in your Caselog:

 

  • Type of mailbox – MailSite
  • Two contact methods, eg. home or cell phone number and personal e-mail address (in the event that your College e-mail address isn’t working)


MAILSITE ACCOUNT EXPIRATION


Your MailSite account will expire 180 days after the completion of your last course. If you return to the College you will need to log-in to your MailSite account to reactivate it.


NETWORK COMPUTERS (COMPUTER LABS)

College computer labs are available for general use when not sche-duled for class use. Schedules are usually posted on lab doors. Labs may be accessed after hours using your student card. If you require the use of specific computer programs, please consult your instructor for appropriate lab locations.


EQUITRAC

Student printing is managed by a software application called Equitrac. Many programs provide printing credits to students. The Print and Graphic Centre is your contact for Equitrac operations and account replenishments - DM19 Notre Dame Campus or W104 Princess St Campus.


PROGRAM SPECIFIC ACCOUNTS

Some programs provide students with access to other computer ac-counts including a Learning Management System, Student SharePoint Sites, and various program specific file shares. The instructors in your program will provide you with more information on these accounts.



Declaration of Waiver


The information is accurate as of September 2009. The College does its best to update College information regularly so students are not inconvenienced. However, on occasion, changes do occur. Therefore, after September 2009, the College reserves the right to modify or cancel any program, process, or procedure without notice or prejudice.
