Adult Learning Centre

Prepare for your future. Out of school for a while? Need credits to finish high school or qualify for a career training program at Red River College? RRC’s Adult Learning Centre delivers the courses needed by mature students to attain their high school diploma and prepare for a career.

Academic Foundations

This five-month program prepares students for Grade 11 or for special admission to selected RRC programs by developing skills in English and mathematics. Students may also choose to study science. All courses may be applied to the attainment of the Mature Student High School Diploma.


Entrance Requirements:

  • All applicants must write the Level Placement Test.

Dates: Late August to January | February to June


Program Content:

  • Academic Foundations Mathematics
  • Foundations English 1 and 2 
  • Science 20F 

Grade 11

RRC offers a variety of Grade 11 courses for students seeking to attain the Mature Student High School Diploma and for high school graduates who require specific courses for college or university.


Entrance Requirements:

  • Grade 10 or RRC Academic Foundations or Level Placement Test

Dates: Late August to January | February to June


Program Content:

  • Foundations English 1 and 2 
  • Applied Math 30S
  • Chemistry 30S - fall only
  • Physics 30S

Grade 12

RRC offers a variety of Grade 12 courses for students seeking to obtain the Mature Student High School Diploma and for high school graduates who require specific courses for college or university.


Entrance Requirements:

  • Grade 11

Dates: Late August to January | February to June

  • Transactional English 40S
  • Language and Technical Communication 40S**
  • Applied Math 40S
  • Essential Math 40S**
  • Chemistry 40S
  • Physics 40S
  • Biology 40S**
  • Global Issues 40S

Introduction to Business

This program prepares students for entry into selected programs in the business and applied arts and sciences areas. Students will earn advance credits towards the first term of selected.

RRC programs, including Business Administration and Computer Accounting Technician. All courses in this program are applicable to the Mature Student High School Diploma.


Entrance Requirements:

  • Manitoba Grade 11 or equivalent secondary school preparation

Dates: Late August to January | February to June


Program Content:

  • Language and Technical Communication 40S**
  • Essential Math 40S**
  • Financial Accounting 1* (Textbooks approximately $122)
  • Business Computing* (Textbooks approximately $135)
  • Introduction to Business*

Fees: No tuition or student fees. Non-refundable registration fee of $20 per course.
