A Message from the Director

These are exciting times for anyone interested in a technical career in aviation. The aviation industry has soared into the 21st Century, with overwhelming growth and new technologies. New national training and licensing standards for Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs) are guiding the aviation colleges into new programming and training techniques.

RRC’s Stevenson Campus is meeting these challenges with new industry partnerships, new nationally accredited programs and training methods that respond to industry demand for licensed AMEs.

Our success can be measured by a graduate employment rate approaching 100%.

The career opportunities in aviation are challenging and rewarding, with excellent income potential.

On behalf of the staff at Stevenson Campus, thank you for considering Red River College as a career path to your future.

Dennis Doersam, Director

 A Brief History

Stevenson Aviation Technical Training Centre was established in 1984 with a mandate to provide skills training and upgrading to meet skill shortages and other identified human resource needs within the Canadian aviation industry.

On June 1, 1989, the Centre established Canada’s first nationally accredited Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Apprenticeship Program (Transport Canada approval #404-87-09). Since this time, Stevenson Aviation has continued to expand and diversify its aviation training course offerings.

In 1992, Stevenson Aviation established a new campus at Southport Aerospace Centre, 5 km. south of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.  Today, this campus is home to our nationally-accredited AME "M" license apprenticeship program which currently has over 200 apprentices enrolled.

On January 7, 2002, Stevenson Aviation expanded its operations by opening a new Winnipeg campus at 2280 Saskatchewan Avenue. This new campus was established to respond to the continuing demand for skilled workers in Manitoba’s aviation and aerospace sector.

Effective April 1, 2002, Stevenson Aviation has merged with Red River College to form RRC’s Stevenson Campus. This merger also includes Stevenson’s Southport campus. The amalgamation of the two entities will provide greater flexibility in programming, and more effective use of training staff, equipment and other resources in responding to industry demand.

Most of our courses are nationally-accredited and certified (Transport Canada; CAMC) ensuring recognition and portability throughout Canada for our graduates. Check out our programs.
